How to get to San Juan Island to Whale Watch?

I am trying to plan a trip to Seattle this May and I really want to go whale watching while I’m there. The problem, my husband and I don’t drive (a curse for a lot of native NYers while traveling). Does anyone know of a way to get from Seattle to San Juan Islands or the Anacortes ferry terminal via public transportation Or if car service would take us and how much?
